Community Information
Kalamazoo is a friendly, mid-sized city with arts, education, sports and cultural offerings you would expect from a much larger community.

Located midway between Detroit and Chicago, the city is home to Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College and Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Our "college town" atmosphere offers unique dining, festivals, shopping and nightlife.

The community's focus on the arts is notable, with many active theatres, galleries and dance studios, as well as large performance venues that host The Gilmore-an internationally known keyboard festival-and major Broadway productions. In addition, Kalamazoo has several semi-professional sports teams, which play at home to enthusiastic crowds.

Kalamazoo residents make the most of the changing seasons. We are less than an hour from the sandy shores of Lake Michigan, near Michigan wine country, and have numerous golf courses and facilities for skiing, snowboarding and other wintertime activities.

We also offer The Kalamazoo Promise, a unique program exclusively for all graduates of Kalamazoo Public Schools. This program provides the opportunity to attend post-secondary education with up to a 100 percent tuition scholarship for attendance at any public state of Michigan university or community college.
