APP Operations Director
Centra – Lynchburg, VA

Centra, based in Lynchburg, VA is seeking an Operations Director of Advanced Practice Providers.  The position is a clinical expert and administrative leader responsible for the oversight of advanced practice providers (APPs) including but not limited to Nurse Practitioners (NP), Physician Assistants (PA), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA), Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM) and Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) within Centra Medical Group. The Director serves as an expert resource for issues related to Advanced Practice Provider (APP) scope of practice and other practice issues and creates an environment that supports participative management and promotes professional development for all staff.  This individual will have responsibility for patient care, orientation, credentialing, professional development, professional practice model, quality, regulatory compliance and clinical integration and optimization of all APPs.


·       The Director will be a practicing Advanced Practice Provider and administrator. This position will be approximately 50% administrative and 50% clinical. The central responsibility of this role is to serve as a single point of contact, liaison, and expertise for matters specific to APPs throughout Centra Health and Centra Medical Group.

·       Provide leadership, direction, administrative support, and feedback to APPs, APP leadership, the CMG APP and MS APP Committees. Develop strategic plans, institutional decision-making, fiscal planning and professional development coordination for all APPs.

·       In collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Chief Clinical Officer (CCO), Medical Directors, Service Line Lead Providers, Administrators and other key leadership personnel, leads and facilitates the design and implementation of care delivery systems and processes that utilize benchmarking data, are innovative and maximizes quality and safety outcomes for patients while ensuring adequate and appropriate APP staffing, facilities and space.

·       In collaboration with others, establishes goals and expectations for achieving high levels of patient satisfaction and employee engagement.

·       Collaborates with the Director of Medical Education and Director of Advanced Practice Education to retain APP Fellows and students.

·       Responsible for understanding and communicating an advanced knowledge of national, state, and local educational and legislative issues affecting APPs. Possess demonstrated knowledge of state and national regulatory requirements.

·       Supervise and coordinate standardized orientation and on-boarding of new APPs to Centra Health and Centra Medical Group.

·       Promote service line utilization of APPs to the full extent of their licensure to ensure access and excellent patient care.

·       Collaborate with service line leaders and provider contracting to ensure APP and physician contracts support appropriate APP/physician or team-based care models.

·       Collaborate with Human Resources to monitor and evaluate turnover, recruiting trends and proactively address workforce challenges.

·       Participate and serve on interdisciplinary committees, project teams and other working groups as appropriate as well as identify and develop APP leaders who can serve on various groups and committees at Centra.

·       Responsible for oversight of APP licensure, credentialing, regulatory & legislative compliance and within National, State, and Centra Health and Centra Medical Group guidelines.

·       Responsible for meeting all fiduciary obligations and proper fiscal management with a focus on quality improvement and financial responsibility.

·       Holds self and others accountable for behaviors, including the commitment to life-long learning, career and succession planning.

·       Is easily accessible to administration and medical staff members.



·       Graduate of an accredited APRN or PA program

·       MBA/MHA or Doctorate preferred


·       5 years' experience in clinical practice, 10+ preferred  

·       Minimum 3 years leadership experience

·       APP Advocacy work experience preferred 


·       Currently licensed to practice as an NP, CNM, CNS, CRNA or PA in Virginia

·       American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider

·       BLS certification
