Family Medicine Residency Program Director - Lynchburg, VA


Position Summary:

The Graduate Medical Education Program Director is a board-certified physician and administrator who oversees the educational operational patient care and scholarly activities of the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency (LFMR) program.  The Program Director has authority and accountability for the operations of the program and has broad responsibilities that encompasses every aspect of post-graduate medical education training.  This includes, but is not limited to, curriculum and evaluation, the learning environment, faculty as teachers, coaches, mentors, and role models, supervision of residents, and program management.


Program Overview:

Lynchburg Family Medicine Program was established in 1975 and is affiliated with Centra Health, Inc. This program is a growing 9-9-9 model with excellent faculty-to-resident ratio. Residency Faculty maintain clinical appointments with the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Liberty University School of Osteopathic Medicine. The primary outpatient clinic is a 28,000 sq. ft. freestanding facility, specifically designed for the residency program. Services include: Primary care of all age groups, prenatal delivery and postpartum care, on-site OB/GYN ultrasound, immunization, including flu shots, counseling services for all ages, on-site laboratory, and on-site radiology.



• Completion of medical school and residency training in the specialty of family medicine.

• Five years of clinical practice and two years as faculty in an accredited family medicine residency.

• Significant experience in the areas of teaching and administration within the realm of family medicine.


Desired Qualifications:

• Has advanced degree or is working toward this such as a Masters of Medical Management, MBA, or MPH as examples.

• Has advanced clinical expertise or has completed a fellowship in Faculty Development.

• Has administrative experience outside academic settings in operations of clinical care.
