Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Chief of Psychiatry, provides psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis, prescribes

medications, supervises and collaborates with other team members, and facilitates treatment plans. Performs

related duties as required.


Education: Graduate of an accredited school of medicine with a Degree of Doctor of Medicine.

Minimum Experience: Prior community mental health services systems experience

Required Licenses/Certifications: CPI -Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (required for all positions at

John George Psychiatric Pavilion; and certain positions in the Emergency Department).

Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid CA License to practice Medicine; eligible for certification in Psychiatry

by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or certificate of graduation from an American Psychiatric

Association-Approved Residency in Psychiatry.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Act in an appropriate and professional manner as defined by the company’s Standards of Behavior, Policy

and Procedures, and Scope of Services.

Actively involve consumers and family members in treatment planning.

Clinical practices of psychiatry including psychopharmacology, individual and group psychotherapy, and

consultation psychiatry.

Conduct psychiatric evaluation and treatment and take effective courses of action.

Consumer rights and family involvement.

Current principles and methods of diagnosing and treating a full range of mental disorders including illnesses

related to drug and alcohol conditions, contra indications and adverse reactions to common psychiatric


Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of disciplines.

General knowledge of case management, psychiatric social work, psychiatric nursing and clinical psychology.

Maintain quality medical records in a timely manner.

Respond effectively to requests for information both verbally and in writing.

Supervise and train other mental health staff.

Up-to-date knowledge of the social and cultural aspects of psychiatry, including cultural competency


Work in multiple treatment settings.

Provides psychiatric evaluation and treatment across a variety of settings including

psychiatric emergency, urgent care, and inpatient services.

Strives to provide culturally effective care to diverse ethnic populations.

Trains and supervises interns and residents.
